About Us

The OrthoCross Amputee Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on transforming the lives of amputees who cannot afford prosthetics. We are driven by the vision of providing personalized care and essential support to amputee patients, particularly those from low-income communities in South Africa. Our mission is to reduce the waiting period for prosthetic fittings from years to just a few months, ensuring amputees regain their mobility and independence as quickly as possible.

As a registered Article 18A and Level 1 BBBEE organization, we offer significant tax benefits to companies that support our mission, with deductions of up to 135%. We also promote our funding partners on social media and brand selected prostheses with the contributing company’s logo, providing visibility for their generous contributions.

Origins

OrthoCross was founded out of a deep commitment to address the lack of access to prosthetics for low or no-income amputees in South Africa. Our founder, Henk Craig, recognized the disparity and decided to create an organization that not only provides prosthetic limbs but also offers holistic care and support throughout the rehabilitation journey. Hospitals like Steve Biko in Gauteng have waiting lists of over 250 amputee patients, often facing delays of up to three years. Our vision is to shorten this waiting time to just three months, ensuring faster, life-changing outcomes for those in need.

Our Vision

Our vision is to support one patient every day and shorten the current three-year waiting period at some state hospitals to just three months, enabling patients to receive prosthetic fittings soon after amputation.
