On September 6, 2024, Barend Nicolaas Jansen’s life took an unexpected turn. A tragic accident involving a falling tree resulted in severe injuries to his right foot. As a diabetic, his healing process was compromised, and the wound developed gangrene, ultimately leading to the amputation of his foot.
A resident of Garsfontein, Pretoria, Barend is now navigating life with a new set of challenges. He candidly shares that the loss of his foot has deeply impacted his sense of self-worth. “It’s hard relying on others for everyday tasks,” he says, describing his struggle to adapt to his new circumstances.
Barend’s greatest wish is to regain his independence and dignity through access to a prosthetic limb. This vital tool would allow him to reclaim control over his daily life and move forward with confidence.
