Mathys Knoetze’s Story

On September 27, 2024, Mathys Johannes Knoetze underwent a life-changing procedure: the amputation of his foot due to gangrene caused by diabetes. Now living in Kinross, Mpumalanga, Mathys shares his daily struggles and dreams of regaining mobility through the help of a prosthetic limb.

Currently residing in a small garage that barely accommodates his wheelchair, Mathys faces significant challenges with his mobility. Using crutches has proven difficult; he frequently falls, leaving him injured and disheartened. These accidents not only affect his physical well-being but also make life more challenging for his wife and children, who are his pillars of support.

For Mathys, the hope of walking again isn’t just about regaining independence—it’s about reclaiming his life. He dreams of navigating his space without fear of falling, driving his car again, and feeling more stable and secure. He believes a prosthesis would transform his daily life, reducing the risk of injury and easing the burden on his family.

Mathys’s story is one of resilience and determination. With access to a prosthetic limb, he envisions a future where he can move freely, restore his balance, and embrace a more fulfilling life.
